Leaves Are Falling

Saturday was such a beautiful day that we had to invent reasons to be outside! Gavin came up with the idea to make a leaf pile so he got the rake out and did some on his own and then talked his Dad into doing the rest (not that there was much to do, as you will see in the pictures - we don't have many leaves in our yard due to Jed cutting down all 50 of our trees last year - that's another blog for another time). Anyway, we had fun playing in the small leaf pile. In the first picture you can see Gavin in the background - that is how far back he had to go to run and jump in the pile each time, poor guy was winded every time he got to the pile! Hope you are all enjoying your fall season.

The Harvest

Well, the weeds took over much of the garden this year but we were able to get 3 crops of green beans, a bunch of watermelons and cantaloupe, a few pumpkins and a TON cucumbers and a TON of gourdes. A couple of nights ago we decided to go out and pick anything that was left in the garden so that Jed could mow it up and be done with gardening for this summer. I have attached pictures below of the kids walking through the weeds that are as tall as they are looking for gourdes. We all had such a fun time, it was like a little treasure hunt and wherever you turned you found another cute little gourd. We filled the wheel barrow and then some. It was all Jed could do to get it back up to the house. Happy Fall!

Hide and Seek

Jed and the kids like to play hide and seek quite often, and for any of you who have been to our house before, you realize that there are a limited number of places to hide after a while. So, last night Jed was getting a little creative, moving furniture etc. It ended with him getting "stuck" behind the chair in the corner and three kids piling on top of him when CARLEY found him. Glad it was his idea and not mine!

Child After My Own Heart

I realized when I saw this set up that MAYBE I have taken Gavin to too many garage sales over the past 5 years (is there such a thing as too many garage sales)? This kid spend 2 full days (I am not kidding) setting stuff up, finding things to "sell" and getting his garage sale, making signs and putting it all together. The only thing Mom did was write GARAGE SALE on one of his signs - everything else was him, right now to his lawn chair to sit in and wait for customers. After he sat in his chair for half a day without any coming to his garage sale, I decided it was probably time I gather up my loose change in the house and go to a garage sale. Then when "Mom" wasn't a good enough customer and he was getting frustrated, I had to call in reinforcements and call Grandma and make sure she could stop by after she was done with work. Then Dad and Grandpa both came through as well - those 4 sales seemed to make him happy and the whole two days work of work worth while. But if you are ever in need of a pumpkin, cucumber, melon, tomatoes, grass clippings, rocks or leaves - you know where to go!

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

So, we are sitting at the table for lunch today and trying to entertain Carley until we were finished so I started singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and Kyra joined in too. But, after we had done it twice Gavin must have been getting sick of it because he said (as serious as can be), "Mom, I think the boat ran out of gas so we can't sing that song anymore." I just had to laugh!

Fishing Weekend

Well, it was cold and rainy most of the weekend for our fishing trip but the kids still had a great time. We got there Friday night at about 9:30 and the kids were pretty good (and loud) during the 3 1/2 hour drive there. Gavin and Kyra went out with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Britton early Saturday morning to do some fishing and caught a few but not much. They came back and everyone had breakfast and then the rain started in. So, we convinced the kids to take an early nap (since they had been up until 11 the night before) and then mid-afternoon the rain stopped and the sun came out and we were back at the fishing. Gavin and Kyra seemed to have better luck than most of the adults that went out in the boat and they were just fishing off the dock. I don't do worms and fish so Grandma had a full time job (plus some) just trying to keep the lines baited and the fish off the hooks. As soon as she released one and they lowered their hooks back in the water they would have another one - it was so much fun to watch. Of course they were only Sunny's but that didn't matter in the least to the kids. Kyra was game for anything, including holding the worms and fish but Gavin took two days of "warming up" to the fish before he would even poke at one. Carley hated her life jacket and thought she hated the boat until Grandma just held onto her and MADE her ride the boat, then she loved it and jabbered the whole time they were out there. It was a relaxing weekend and fun to spend a couple of days with everyone - that doesn't happen much anymore as everyone goes their own directions.

Getting Started

Well, this seems to be the "in" thing to do now (at least with all of our relatives) so we are going to give it a try - I don't promise anything yet. This will be my test entry to figure out how all this stuff works. I will try to do a "real" post next week after we get back from our family vacation to the cabin. Hopefully I will be able to put pictures of the kids catching fish - I wouldn't hold my breath on that though! I hope you will enjoy this site and keeping up with what we are doing in our lives. Save this page on your favorites and check back now and then to see what's new.
